Tranquility Llamas is owned and operated by Cary & Verona Barr. It is home to a herd of about 15 llamas in the heart of Illinois. We have been raising llamas since 1985. Our focus is on llamas with sound body structure and friendly personalities.
Classic Llamas
Unlike many of the llamas around today, most of our llamas are of the classic, short wool type. We have found that this makes them better able to withstand the high heat and humidity of a central Illinois summer. Even so, we do shear our llamas every other year to make sure that they are comfortable and to harvest their fine wool, which we spin into yarn for use in making garments, rugs and other crafts.
Due to other time committments, we are no longer actively breeding and selling our llamas. Our herd continues to be a source of joy and relaxation for our family, friends and the public and we are still active in all the other aspects of llama life listed below.
What We Do
We are actively involved with boarding, shearing, wool crafts, training, llama showing and judging and just hanging out with them! Take a look at some of the photos of the llamas we raise. Check out the "Frequently Asked Questions" page for further information about llamas and their care.
We're always happy to arrange visits for individuals or groups and we just love to talk about our llamas and their care and uses. If you're interested in learning more about llamas, e-mail us to arrange a visit to see them all, up close and personal. The herd is waiting to meet you!
